Captured

Ever since I got my hands on my first digital camera in middle school, something about photography has kept me hooked! There was a point in time when the only gift I wanted for the holidays was a new camera. It’s funny because as I type this, I’m realizing how long it took for me to even acknowledge photography as a gift. Like an addict, I’d get a rush every time I could capture some moment on my camera knowing that I’d have it forever. Even today, I get excited any time I have the opportunity to capture candid, God-gifted moments with my own creative perspective.

Honestly, I never recognized photography as a skill of mine because I was never really trained or educated on the craft - I just always had a creative eye and could figure out the rest by trial and error. For a moment(really several years), I minimized the gift and deemed it unimportant. I always had a camera but I didn’t realize the purpose of having it - to bless others and bring God glory. That’s the ultimate purpose of every gift given to us by God! Matthew 5:16 says, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Within the last 3 years, I finally began to embrace my passion for photography. I started taking pictures for organizations I’m a part of, friends/family, and of course a few selfies. When people responded so well to the final photos, it confirmed things for me because I accepted the fact that although it’s easy for me, it’s not so simple for others. Now, I spend way more time practicing with my camera, learning new things and praying for more understanding about how God wants the gift to be used in my realms of influence. It seems like every thing I’m involved in now outside of work gives me an opportunity to put my gift to use! I’m currently interested in mastering portraits, landscape/nature, and event photography.

I guess the purpose of all this is to say: don’t sleep on your gift like I did! When you recognize a gift that you’ve been blessed with, understand that no matter how small you may think it is, God wants to use it to bring glory to himself. Keep learning, practicing your craft and being passionate about whatever it is for you and just watch what God does with it!

If you’d like to set up a shoot with me, shoot me a message! I’d love to capture your special moments.
